Katye Barros
Katye Barros was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Painter, sculptor and lawyer. As a child, she had ambitions to become an artist, wanting nothing more other than to paint. Originally, Katye got a Law degree. She attended several art courses in Brazil, as well as La Grand Chaumière and Port Royal in Paris. Under the guidance and instruction of Walter Lewy, the Brazilian surrealist master, she developed her potential. Lewy had a profound influence in how she approached her work, and inspired her to create her own and unique style, initially surrealist, becoming abstract since 1985. From 1982 to 1984, she was a member of the Arts Association from UNESCO, acting as a counselor. Katye exhibited her work in Brazil and abroad and received several awards. Her work is always surprising and is constantly evolving. Whether it is an oil painting, a watercolor, a sculpture, Katye’s approach and refined technique shows her versatility as an artist, her insight into nature, human sensitivity, culture and social values, leaving an imprint that is purely her own.
